To determine the R score, the Ministry uses the results of students in the same evaluation group, which are provided by Cégep à distance. This "evaluation group" includes students who took the same course, in the same year, during the same session, and were evaluated in the same way. This procedure, prescribed by the Ministry, has been in place since Cégep de Rosemont assumed responsibility for distance education through Cégep à distance in 1991.
The Ministry performs its own calculations, resulting in an average that is different from the one shown on the Cégep à distance transcript, and this average is used to calculate the R score. Therefore, it’s important not to confuse the "evaluation group" used by the Ministry for the R score calculation with the group average shown on the student’s transcript. In fact, the average on the transcript is not used by the Ministry for the R score calculation.
Cégep à distance fully complies with the definition of the "evaluation group" as described on the Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire (BCI) website for the purpose of calculating the R-score. For more details on the R score, consult the BCI website, specifically the document Questions and Answers about the College R Score.
